Sweet!

The wedding dress I found and loved was a size 6 that fit pretty good. It was a little tight, but I thought, "hey, girls tend to lose weight for their weddings so it'll work." Then I thought, "I don't wanna lose weight. Let's order an 8." Then came Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.

I tried on the dress yesterday. It fits great.

Amanda hasn't given up on her blog.

I'll post again soon. I've just been playing too much. And working and moving and eating lots of crap.

Soon to come:

-reasons why i'm glad i ordered a size 8 wedding dress instead of the 6 i initially tried on

-holiday game review

-the amazingness that is BBC's Planet Earth series.

-the ups and downs of splitting Christmastime with the soon-to-be in-laws.

I hope everyone had a great holiday week!

Don't read this if the "S" word offends you. ...Oops, you already saw it, didn't you.

A friend of mine posted this on facebook. Sometimes sarcasm gets the point across* best. It's sad, it's funny, it's true.

Sorry I couldn't make it bigger. But if you want to read the fine print (you do), it says...

You probably thought it was smart to buy a foreign import of superior quality, with better mileage and resale value. Maybe you even thought that years of market share loss might prod us into rethinking our process and redesigning our products with better quality in mind. But you forgot one thing: we spend a shitload of money on lobbyists. So now you're out $25 billion, plus the cost of your subaru. Maybe next time you'll buy American like a real man. Either way, we’re cool.

We're the big three. We don't need to compete.

.

*across. why do i always spell it with two c's before I realize it only has one? Also, I think in some contexts i say it "acrosst." I think many people do. why?

The wonderfully throbbing Christmas.

I would like to share (with the zero or maybe one person that reads this blog) the awesomeness of translations from Asian languages to English. I'm sure most people are familiar with the fact that you can buy many things in Asia with random non-sensical English phrases on them. It's great.

In defense of Asians, I think we United Statesians do the same thing... hanging chinese characters on our walls and tatooing them on our bodies, not really sure if they say peace, love, happiness, or f*** you!

For those of you not familiar with Asian attempts at English, here are a few examples from http://www.engrish.com/ ....

Yes... I think is rearry bud for you.

are there going to be some urinals in here? or just toilets? or do femans have their own special kind?

yummy.... how about some crap and cheese wontons and some kung poo chicken as well?

I don't know... I really just don't know. Also, it seems to be a product of Mexico. Globalization can be so distressing.

In the Christmas spirit, here are some of my own discoveries while shopping for a birthday present for my mom at T.J. Maxx Home Goods last year. Thank goodness I had my camera.

(Conversation in my head...)

me: oh, this is kind of a cute appetizer serving dish thingy. I bet my mom might like it. you know, poinsettias and happy christmas words.

other me: happy christmas words like... "chree?" "celebra?"

me: oh. maybe she won't notice. let's see...

other me: "down the chimney broad and black with your pack?"

me: fine. we're right*. she'll notice. that sounds like a creeper burglar. oh but look at the nice pitcher that goes with it.

other me: "fast asleep, ok you'll creep." real cute and festive.

me: moving on.

*no, I'm not schizophrenic.

MY BLOG!

Okay I've discovered the fun that blogs can be over the past few months. I read tons of random blogs... everyone from my family to old school friends to random but funny people that I don't know from Adam... Jonathan thinks that last one is kind of weird ("Why would you read blogs of people that you don't even know...?") Well it's not creepy, okay. I justify it as a way to get new perspectives on life. Also entertainment. There are some dang funny people out there.

The main point of this blog is to share random parts of my life that hopefully aren't way too private or way too boring. Also, i LOVE traveling and experiencing how other people live and think. This blog is meant to be my experiences with my travels as well. I'm leaving for Ecuador in February '09 for at least 4 months so I'll definitely start blogging a bunch more then. I think it'll be a good way to keep family and friends up to date on what we're doing down there.

Lastly, I promise I can write. I'm about to graduate from the University of Utah with degrees in Political Science, Spanish, and a minor in Latin American Studies. I've done my fair share of academic writing the past 5 years. In two languages. So please excuse me if i don't capitalize things that should be capitalized or if i write in run-on sentences or if my grammar isn't completely perfect. This is for fun.

Anyway, I'd better get back to studying for my last final EVER.
